The Pub

The Ropemakers was built in the late eighteenth century by the Gundry family and was originally called The Sun Inn. The building was refurbished by the Brewery in 1989 and the name changed to The Ropemakers to reflect Bridport's main industry as the World's biggest net making centre which was based on the other side of the road. In some ways The Ropemakers is a bit of a Tardis in that the building is much larger than it looks from the street as it stretches back and back ending in a pretty courtyard area that is popular with smokers and drinkers alike.

The current Landlords, John and Geraldine Baker have concentrated on good quality food made in their own kitchens from ingredients sourced from the best local suppliers. On Friday and Saturday evenings we offer an excellent live music scene featuring the best of the local groups plus various touring bands from as far afield as France. Every Tuesday we have a friendly fun quiz starting at 8:00pm with the winners winning a bottle of wine.

The Main Bar

Traditional in style and feel, we serve local Palmers Ales as well as the usual lagers, ciders and stout. We concentrate on quality and are Cask Marque assured.

The Courtyard

We have a large courtyard to the rear of the building which is partially covered. This makes an ideal smoking area and is heated during the winter. A pleasant spot for eating during the summer and a busy social area at the weekends

The Front Bar

This is the seating area closest to West Street at the front of the building. On Wednesdays and Saturdays there is a thriving market on the three main streets of Bridport. This area is decorated with historical items of interest.

The pub is decorated thoughtout with old items of interest, with each area themed differently. The main area where we put our live bands has the theme of entertainment with an interesting selection of copies of signed photographs as well as old posters. The front bar is decorated with items relating to Bridport's history and the ropemaking trades.
